Lament 1: a one off-art event
"I would sincerely like to thank you Suzanne for taking my work and ideas seriously right from the first moment I met you. Thank you for listening to me with depth and sensitivity throughout the process of making Lament 1. Also, for your role as Guide/Consultant giving theoretical understanding to the work, which also gave me the confidence to continue and see it realised. It was a great pleasure for me to work with you!"
- Anna Taifernopoulos.
'Lament 1' was a one-off art event at the Abbotsford Convent, Melbourne, on 29 September 2018. Female artists reflected on loss and grief, and created a ritualised death performance. The lament ritual was inspired by ancient Greek traditions. Artists used their preferred modalities to express this through movement, poem, and sculpture. Anna Taifernopoulos was the creative director, and Lament 1 began as a process of working through her mother's death. The date of the event was the anniversary of her mother's death.
